but knew I had to go
the days were drawing closer
and the feeling of entrapment while waiting
only exasperated me even more
I can’t wait any longer
I am no silent victim
and I know who I am fighting for
its the thought of my unborn yet unconceived daughter
being burdened with the identity crisis of ancestries past
Smothered by tradition and a patriarchal society
I’ve suffocated long enough under strategically placed veils
that for far too long separated my thoughts my words my body
displaced ideologies were placed upon me
I am covered in religion tradition politics
No longer recognizable
My eyes are left to tell the story
